A MOUNTAIN rescue group is one of five finalists from Wales in a community competition to win £5,000.
Longtown Mountain Rescue was chosen from hundreds of entrants as the east regional finalist in the Principality Building Society’s Community Vote 2014, which has gone out to a public vote to win the cash prize and a community Christmas party.
The Abergavenny-based group runs a 24-hour emergency service staffed by volunteers and funded by donations, covering the east of the Brecon Beacons and surrounding areas of Monmouthshire, Herefordshire, Mid and South Wales.
The cash would help buy the latest technology to plan and undertake search and evacuation operations for people who are lost or injured in the Black Mountains and surrounding areas.
