A GRANDMOTHER of six has gone back to school as part of a Welsh Government campaign.
Pamala White, 74, from Caldicot, decided to take up the challenge of learning Welsh as part of New Year, New You.
She now studies every Wednesday at Caldicot Community Education Bungalow in the town’s leisure centre for two hours.
She said: “I wanted a new challenge and to keep my brain active so I asked my daughter, Zoe, to do some research and she found a course and I persuaded her to come along for moral support.
“I was extremely nervous about the thought of going back into education after years away from a classroom. I’m an extremely proud Welsh woman and have always wanted to be able to speak my mother tongue and I thought better late than never!”
New Year, New You is part-funded by the European Social Fund and is being run in partnership with NIACE Dysgu Cymru, the Welsh arm of the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education.
It is designed to make people in Wales more aware of the importance of having good skills, and to encourage them to think about what training they need to improve their career prospects.
