A PRIMARY school has been praised by its local MP for setting up a credit union to teach youngsters about the importance of saving.
Islwyn MP Chris Evans commended the work of Fleur-de-Lys Primary School Credit Union at a special school assembly. He heard from the pupils who had set up their own savings scheme with the help of Islwyn Community Credit Union.
The scheme, which was launched just before Christmas, is already paying dividends with 36 members saving almost £500. During the assembly, Mr Evans awarded certificates to young savers congratulating them on their savings success.
He said: “I was delighted to be able to attend a special assembly and personally congratulate the young savers at Fleur-de-Lys primary.
“It is so important that future generations get into good saving habits early”.
