MORE tributes have poured in for a “much loved” young mum and her unborn baby who died in a car crash just weeks before her due date.
Sophie Williams, 20, was in the passenger seat as she and fiance Ben Morgan drove home after celebrating Valentine’s Day when the two-car collision happened at 11pm on the A465 between Brynmawr and Garnlydan.
Her last words to her brother Shane Williams, 18, were “I love you”. Mr Williams, 18, said: “When the crash happened, I was in the flat looking after her daughter. I rang her saying (her daughter Mia, aged one) had just woken up. She asked if I wanted her to come back and I said no. I said, “I love you” and she said “I love you” back. Those were her last words.”
He said his sister, from Waundeg, Tredegar, was “just amazing, would do anything to help anyone. The day she died, she’d actually sorted me out a place to stay, my own little flat in Tredegar.”
Family described former Brynmawr Comprehensive pupil Miss Williams as a “beautiful, happy girl” who loved dancing. She had performed with Kidz R Us dance school in Tredegar and Brynmawr Operatic Society.
Fiance Ben Morgan, 28, described painting the kitchen in preparation for the new baby after recently proposing on holiday in Aberystwyth. He said: “She was really happy and so was I. I have been trying to keep myself busy. I’ve still got my other daughter to think about. She’s my priority at the moment.”
Miss Williams was taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny, where surgeons operated, but they were not able to save her or baby Kayleigh. Cousin Tania Price paid tribute saying: “We played together, we grew up together, we partied together. I thought we’d grew old together, but one thing we did do was take on the world together.”
Her aunt Valerie Chater said: “Sophie was a beautiful lady, well respected by everybody.”
Her mother Maria Williams and Mr Morgan added they wanted to “praise Nevill Hall Hospital for their fantastic effort to save Sophie’s life. We can’t thank them enough.”
Gwent Police’s investigation into the crash is ongoing and officers are appealing for any witnesses to contact 101 quoting 544 14/02/14.
