MORE than 25 children enjoyed playing hopscotch, football and bike riding in an Abergavenny street on Sunday.
They were taking part in the third Playing Out event organised by Windsor Road resident Chloe Charrington. The street was closed off to traffic, with the permission of Monmouthshire council, for two hours during the afternoon. The initiative was launched by Bristol-based ‘Playing Out’ – a not-for-profit information and advice resource run by mums. It aims to increase children’s safe access to play in residential streets through street-led play. Among the activities that children enjoyed were chalk drawing, riding scooters and playing games.
Mrs Charrington, said: “It’s a chance for children to reclaim the streets for a couple of hours. We close the road and have marshalls at each end so the children have free run. The residents kindly moved their cars to provide a car-free road.”
