COMEDIAN Griff Rhys Jones' adventure took him to the top of the Severn Bridge and on a canoe ride down the River Wye.

The Welsh presenter, famous for being half of a double act with Mel Smith, has embarked on 'A Great Welsh Adventure' as part of an ITV production to showcase the Welsh landscape. Episode seven titled 'Border' which will be broadcast on February 17, will see him scale the top of the Severn Bridge and travel to Chepstow Castle.

He said: "I’m setting out on a personal odyssey, you see I was born in Wales but brought up in Essex and now I’m coming back. I want to get to grips with a wonderful, magical, remarkable country – Wales.”

Mr Jones' journey begins at an old ferry crossing near Bristol which was the main method of getting to Wales it was replaced in 1966 by the Severn Bridge.  Here he joined the maintenance crew in a walk along the bridge to check the wires.

In Chepstow he takes Welsh lessons and learns the words to the Welsh National Anthem. He then paddles up the River Wye with a group of canoeists where he gets the best views of Chepstow Castle and learns more about Tintern Abbey.

The adventurer has already visited other parts of Wales including Snowdonia, the Gower, Pembrokeshire, Anglesey, Mid Wales, Conwy and Brecon.
