To coincide with the release of Kickshaws new mini-album Chris Davison chats with Andy Howells
Who are you and how did you come together?
Hi my name is Chris and i play in a band called Kickshaws. Me and the drummer Dale had been jamming in various bands throughout the years and we we're looking to do something new and Joe was back in town after recently travelling the world and we just got together and kicked out the jams.
Where are you from?
The good old North East of England, Darlington to be exact!I think Dale was born in Somerset though and moved down here because it's cheaper.
How would you describe your music style?
I guess we're a rock band at heart but we like to paint soundscapes over the power chords. So we're not traditional rock, maybe a bit shoe gazy and ambient in places. So maybe Alt/pop/rock/shoegaze. I don't know, I really don't like pigeonholing. Our next album might be a folk record.
What’s been your best live experience?
Probably at our ep launch last year as we put together a quite big multimedia show with visuals and a Pink Floydy light show and we just nailed it in front of a really good home crowd.
You have a new mini- album out can you tell us more about that?
It's just something we've been working on for the last 9 months or so. We we're going to do a three track e.p initially but we just added a few extra songs on there for good measure. We thought doing a full album was a bit to much for our first release as there is a lot of stress involved in that kind of thing.
Will you be coming to Wales sometime in the future?
Hopefully one day. I think the plan is to gradually work our way down South then eventually Wales. I hear it's a good scene up here?
Where can people hear your music?
We are giving our mini album away for free on our Bandcamp page or if you want to make a donation there is that option as well. We don't have many recording overheads because I have my own Studio. Thank you very much for the interview it has been an absolute pleasure:)
