NEWPORT council is advertising for a new head teacher at Rogerstone Primary School after former head teacher Sam Yeoman left for personal reasons last month.

The school is still under investigation over the way national primary school tests were conducted there.

Acting head teacher Steve Rayer, who came to the school from Pantside Primary School in Caerphilly county borough, will be in post until the end of August.

Ms Yeoman's departure came shortly after the resignation of the chairman of the school governors, Ernie Watkins, who was replaced by Belinda Cook.

The role of head teacher, with a salary of £57,520 to £66,623 a year, begins in September and candidates should be "an exceptional person who is outstanding in leadership, Innovation and change management, with the vision to take the school to the next level of excellence".

In the advert the governing body promises "an outstanding team of enthusiastic, committed professionals"; a state of the art sustainable eco-building, built for learning and teaching, opened in and fit for the 21st century; inquisitive, interested pupils who love to learn; and an "exceptionally supportive governing body" in partnership with parents and local community.

The closing date for applications is midnight on March 17, with interviews scheduled for the end of this month.

The council is also looking for a head teacher for the soon-to-merge Gaer Infants and Junior Schools, for which the deadline was yesterday, as well as a deputy head teacher at Malpas Court Primary School and two deputy heads at Lliswerry Primary School starting in April.
