A NEWPORT teen will walk in memory of her grandmother this autumn.
Lucy Paginton, 17, will take part in the 10k Cardiff Memory Walk on September 13 hoping to raise £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society. Last year she raised £800 but is determined to raise more this time and spread awareness of the disease.
She said: “In 2013, I lost someone very close to my heart to dementia, it was such a heartbreaking experience, an experience I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
“That person was my nana, Bernice Reynolds.”
Miss Paginton will also hold a series of fundraising events in the run up .
“After spending time with my nana, I realised individuals that suffer with dementia need a lot of attention, care and love and affection,” she added.
“Dementia affects people in different ways, some worse than others, so I decided I wanted to get involved and raise money to go towards supporting people that are suffering.
“Although raising this money won’t take away the pain I’m feeling, I will be proud to know my hard work has gone towards supporting families, carers and sufferers dealing with the heartbreaking disease.”
