A 91-year-old man died following a fall from a footbridge in a Gwent valleys town, an inquest was told.
Staff from Newbridge leisure centre administered first aid to the man, later identified as Arthur John Grist, after he was seen falling from the nearby Calzaghe Bridge early on the afternoon of last Sunday, March 2, deputy coroner for Gwent Wendy James was told.
An ambulance crew attended and Mr Grist, who lived in Newbridge, was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital, where he died later that day.
A post mortem examination subsequently concluded that he died of multiple injuries.
Ms James adjourned the inquest for three months.
