A SUSPECTED landmine was brought in to Cwmbran Police station by a member of the public this evening.
Gwent Police confirmed that at around 4.55pm a member of the public brought in a metal device that they thought was a wartime landmine.
Cwmbran Police Station was evacuated and police immediately closed Tudor Road in Cwmbran between St David's Road and Llywelyn Road for public safety while waiting for Bomb Disposal to arrive to deal with the device.
Bomb Disposal arrived at Cwmbran Police Station at 6pm and said that the device was not a bomb but just ‘rusted cylindrical metal’ and was no danger to the public, before removing the device.
Gwent Police said that all efforts were made to reduce the impact to the public during this time.
The road was closed for one hour while the investigation into the device was carried out, but has since reopened.
