THE mother of a teenage leukaemia survivor has helped organise a ladies’ lunch charity event to raise money for Noah’s Ark Appeal.
Karen Clatworthy’s son James was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia aged 13 in 2009 and has spent many months in hospitals, undergoing operations and treatment for the severe cancer.
Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales treats about 100,000 babies and children in Wales every year, providing pioneering treatment to those who are critically ill and in need of specialist medical care.
The charity has supported James and his family over the years and his mother has decided it is time to give back to the trust.
Mrs Clatworthy, 46, from Coedkernew, said: “It is unbelievably difficult dealing with your child being so ill but the support we had was incredible and the care we received from Noah’s Ark was second to none.
“We hope that all families will continue to benefit from the amazing facilities and care if their children need it, so we feel we’d like to give something back.”
The Argus previously reported how James had been suffering from tiredness and colds for a month and a rash broke out on his legs before he was diagnosed.
He missed 18 months of school while undergoing chemotherapy before undergoing a successful bone marrow transplant in February 2010.
The Just for Ladies event will be a lunch for women to raise money for the charity.
There will be a drinks reception, entertainment and a three-course meal at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff at 2pm on Friday March 21. The event will go on until the early evening.
Tickets cost £50.
Anyone interested in attending or donating an auction prize, should contact Karen Clatworthy on 0773 951 9002.
