WARNINGS have been issued by police after a spate of anti-social behaviour under the A48 bridge at Chepstow.

Messages have gone out to OWL neighbourhood watch members in the area, alerting them to underage drinking and smoking, loud music, littering and drug use local officers have had to respond to in recent weeks.

Members were told of an incident on March 1 when about 60 youths, aged 12-18, were gathered under the bridge. A week later, an ambulance had to be called for an unconscious 16-year-old girl, believed to be under the influence of alcohol and found by police at The Back.

A spokeswoman from Gwent Police said: “Anti social behaviour is PACT priority for Chepstow Police and local officers are working very closely with local schools and partner agencies in order to minimise this.

“Alcohol has been seized, details taken, parents and guardians have been informed and referrals have been sent to partner agencies.

“Officers are warning any repeat of this behaviour could lead to arrests being made. Not only do gatherings in this volume cause a nuisance to local residents it can also present real danger to youngsters who are very vulnerable in this situation.

“Officers urge parents and guardians to take an interest in what their youngsters are doing on weekends and remind them of the dangers of underage drinking.”
