THE owners of an Usk hotel are preparing to celebrate a landmark anniversary.
Peter and Jan Clarke, owners of the Glen-Yr-Afon House Hotel will honour its 40 years with an evening of nostalgia.
Since opening its doors to customers the hotel has welcomed thousands of guests for family celebrations, weddings, dining or a stay in one of its 27 guest bedrooms.
In 1973, the Glen-Yr-Afon was bought by Peter and Jan Clarke together with another couple Rosemary and John Saunders. It soon came under the Clarke’s sole ownership when the Saunders’ decided to leave and start a family.
Today, the Clarke’s remain as directors together with Tim Strong and Alex Brown, who have both worked in the business since their teens.
Mr Clarke said: “We remain as committed to excellent customer service today, as we did in the beginning.”
Many extensions to the original building have followed over the years. The largest extension was completed in 1992 which added a further 12 bedrooms to the hotel together with a large function suite and an extended dining room.
Some of the hotel’s first customers will join the staff and other guests to mark the milestone anniversary at the hotel on March 23.
