YOUNGSTERS from Caerleon hope to show others their age the dangers of alcohol by putting on an event called True Cost next week.
A group from Caerleon Comprehensive School, led by 16-year-old Ieuan Thomas, has been working with national charity Fixers to compose short plays to demonstrate the potential consequences of drinking. Fixers supports young people aged 16-25. Ieuan Thomas said: “We have all felt peer pressure throughout school and feel many young people do things to ‘fit in’ without realising what they are doing.
“We have worked with Fixers to create three short skits that show the real dangers and consequences of drinking alcohol, as many young people think it can give them confidence or make them invincible.
“The skits show how someone thinks they look or act when they have been drinking, and then the reality of how they actually look.”
Newport Youth Service will also be at the event offering visitors the chance to try on ‘beer goggles’ – glasses that mimic the effects of alcohol – and take part in other simple activities which demonstrate the effects of alcohol.
The event will run from 5.30pm until 7pm on Tuesday March 18at Caerleon Town Hall.
If you would like to attend the event, contact Jenny Road, of Fixers, young person’s co-ordinator for South Wales at jenny@fixers.org.uk or on 07891598171.
