THE GAME makers of Newport’s Monopoly have been left “baffled” at a lack of votes for sites to reside at the city's equivalent of Old Kent Road.

Monopoly game makers are asking themselves whether Newport is “too posh” for an Old Kent Road equivalent on the city’s version of the game following a lack of suggestions from Newportonians for the games most moderately priced site.

Of all 22 property sites in the game, Old Kent Road is the lowest ranking in position, which has the poorest returns, and is the cheapest to buy, costing just 60 Monopoly notes.

This comes following the announcement made earlier this month at Tredegar House which revealed that Newport would be getting its very own version of the game in time for Christmas.

Newportonians were invited to cast their votes for which landmarks they would like to see grace the famous spots on the board.

Since then the makers say they have been “overwhelmed” with “wonderful” suggestions.

Dan Taylor, Head of Custom Games at Winning Moves UK – producing the board under license from Hasbro, said: “It is crystal clear from the public’s voting that Newport is more than well blessed with great landmarks to fill the length and breadth of the board with the Transporter Bridge, Rodney Parade, and Tredegar House.

“We have been absolutely spoilt for choice.

“But there have been hardly any suggestions so far for an Old Kent Road equivalent.

“Perhaps the city is too ‘posh?”

Mr Taylor also added that many nominations have suggested four city bridges take over the four train stations from the board’s original, after he previously said that the train stations will take on a “travel” theme.

Other suggestions include fining players for paying a visit to England, which is currently being considered by Mr Taylor.

He added: “We would like to thank everyone for their imaginative suggestions.

“Some have even been in poetic form.

“Please keep them all coming!”

Poll lines close at midnight on March 25.
