A MAN charged with causing the deaths of an elderly couple by dangerous driving appeared at Newport Crown Court yesterday.
Harising Gurung, 45, is alleged to have caused the deaths of David and Mary Marshall while driving a Volkswagen Golf on the A40 near Clytha, Monmouthshire, on July 20 last year.
Gurung, of Beacons Close, Brecon, denies two counts of causing death by dangerous driving on the road between Abergavenny and Raglan and two counts of causing death by careless driving.
The defendant, who appeared in court with the help of an interpreter, was bailed until his provisional trial date on June 16.
The Marshalls, who lived in Llangattock, were parishoners at St Mary’s Priory Church in Abergavenny for several decades, the vicar, Rev Mark Soady, told the Argus at the time of the incident.
The couple were on their way home from a church barbecue in St Arvans when the crash happened.
Mr Marshall, 78, who served in the Royal Air Force, was an altar man at the church which involved assisting the clergy with the Eucharist.
