NEWBRIDGE boxing coach supremo Enzo Calzaghe will be opening a memorabilia shop in the town on Monday morning.
Calzaghe Casa, which translates from Italian as Calzaghe Home, will be opening on High Street at 9am and will sell items related to the formidable roster of boxing stars he helped train to world stardom.
He said: “It’s absolutely magical. It’s like the Cavern Club, with the Beatles; it’s a magical store.”
He said that all the items in the shop relate to fighters who made part of boxing squad Team Calzaghe, like his son Joe, who won world titles at super middleweight and light heavyweight, former cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli and ex-WBA light welterweight champion Gavin Rees.
Among the memorabilia, there will be framed canvases and original photographs, right down to smaller gifts like mugs and books.
The shop, which is opposite Lloyds Bank, will open and allow customers to browse for about an hour and then there will be a question and answer session with Mr Calzaghe and some of the feted Newbridge boxing club graduates, including Joe Calzaghe, Mr Maccarinelli, Mr Rees and Nathan Cleverly, who was the WBO light heavyweight Champion from 2011 until 2013.
