A PRIMARY school pupil from Risca has won a competition to design the town council’s official logo.
Elen Parry, a Year 6 pupil from Risca Primary School, beat more than 100 other entries with her drawing inspired by the main gates of Risca’s Tredegar Park.
Her image will now appear as the logo on all official material produced by Risca Town Council, and also as the town Mayor’s badge of office.
Councillor Hazel Dupre, the Mayor of Risca Town Council, congratulated Elen at a small ceremony yesterday (Fri) and presented the youngster with a large, framed copy of her winning logo, along with a selection of drawing equipment, paints and other gifts to help her budding artistic career.
Cllr Dupre said: “We created the town council last year with a goal to develop ways to bring the community together and enable people of all ages feel part of our special town.
“So to have one of the youngest members of our community focus on a recognisable, iconic image at the very heart of our community as our official logo; well we couldn’t think of anything better.
“Having worked with our pupils on a mass daffodil planting in Tredegar Park, we know that they are proud to be involved in activities that that benefit the whole community.
“So we knew that they would produce some wonderful designs for our logo. What we didn’t expect was the level of creativity, colour and attention to detail.
“It was such a shame that we could only pick one winner, but we are really proud of all the work.”
