AS part of their fundraising for St David’s in memory of Newport lifeguard Steven Lewis, his mum Jackie Lewis and her friend Sue Murphy have been running a monthly photography competition.
Since they started fundraising in 2012, £22,692 has been raised for St David’s in memory of Steven.
Each month any subject is photographed using a specific colour somewhere in the photograph. Each monthly colour theme is based on different Cancer Awareness ribbons.
The competition raised over £300 for St David’s Foundation Hospice Care from October to December, including money raised from sales of a 2014 calendar made of up of photographs from the monthly winners and first and second runners up. The monthly winner receives a gift voucher based on the total money from entries and the overall winner for the year is presented with a canvas of their winning picture.
This month the colour is yellow for bone cancer or gold for childhood cancer. Up until this month staff at St David’s judged the competition but from March all the photographs will be uploaded to newportevents.co.uk and the public will be invited to vote on the winner and two runners up.
Entry is £1 per photograph and these can be e-mailed to Mrs Lewis at jaclew50@hotmail.co.uk using the current month as the subject and entry fee can be paid on her JustGiving page for St David’s justgiving.com/Jackie-Lewis31. The closing date for each month will be the last day of that month. Next month they will be using orchid or blue/royal blue for Testicular Cancer.
