AN 11-year-old girl will reach dizzying heights for charity this spring as she climbs Snowdon in memory of her aunt.

Rogerstone Primary School pupil Isabel Young, will climb Snowdon for the second time; along with four of her friends on May 9 to raise money for St David’s Hospice Care.

Isabel, who tragically lost her aunt Diane Burrows to bowel cancer on February 3 last year, aged 70, will climb the peak with her father Jason Young, 42, and cousin, Evie Hond, aged nine.

Isabel has already climbed the mountain aged just seven, and will embark on the challenge again for the worthy cause.

The group of ten will be camping overnight before continuing their climb to the top on May 10.

Her father Mr Young, said that they wanted to give back to the organisation which helped Ms Burrows: “We decided to climb Snowdon to raise funds for St David’s Hospice, because the girls have done the climb before when they were younger.

“When she suggested it we thought that it was a fantastic idea.”

Along with her cousin, Isabel will also be joined by her friends Mitchel Davies, ten; Jasmine Bridges, eight; Mille Manson, eight; Ayrton French, five and Katy French eight.

Isabel said she was excited for the trek and had already been training with her father every Sunday climbing peaks including Twmbarlwm.

“I am excited about the climb,” she said.

“I have done it before when I was seven, but this year we are going to do it because my cousins nan died of cancer.

“My dad thought that it would be nice to raise money for her and the hospital which helped her.

“Some parts (of the climb) are difficult such as the climb on the way up.” Isabel will ask for the support of her friends and family to sponsor her for completing the challenge: “I am going to ask my family to sponsor me.”
