THE discovery of the body of Nida Naseer brings to a tragic end the three-month search for the missing teenager.
Thursday morning's discovery at the Newport Wetlands was the news we all feared but also the news we hoped not to have to report.
Happy endings to this kind of story are rare.
Our thoughts and prayers are with 19-year-old Nida's family at this terrible time.
They have had three months of uncertainty and are now grieving the loss of a daughter and sister.
We hope those people who have, frankly, disgraced themselves with awful online comments since Nida disappeared from her family home in Newport on December 28 show some dignity and humanity now the worst has happened.
There has been no shortage of support for Nida's family since the Coleg Gwent student went missing - from friends, family and the local community in the Pill area of the city as a whole.
We hope they can take some comfort from that support in their darkest hour.
