AN INVESTIGATION into Newport teenager Nida Naseer’s death is still ongoing, police said yesterday.
Miss Naseer, 19, disappeared from her home on Linton Street in Pill on December 28 last year without her coat, shoes, mobile phone, money or anaemia medicine.
The body of the Coleg Gwent student was found on Thursday morning by a member of the public at Newport Wetlands.
Police said her death is being treated as unexplained but no one is being sought in connection with it.
An extensive search for Miss Naseer was carried out by a sniffer dog and four horses on New Year's Day, and her family made an emotional appeal for her return on January 25, her 19th birthday.
But Gwent Police’s physical searches ended on March 9 after 630 lines of enquiry but no sightings.
Superintendent Mark Warrender, local policing commander for Newport, said the case was “extremely tragic”.
