TWO Newport fundraisers who will cycle around the world for charity this summer are urging Newport residents to help them by matching the miles they will cycle in a number of events around the city.
Dedicated cyclists Robert Shipley, a dairy farm worker, and Ryan Farley, an engineer at Cardiff Railway station, both 24, are gearing up for their ultimate cycling challenge this summer as they cycle more than 18,000 miles around the world in aid of Cancer Research UK.
In the build up to their trip the cyclists are urging the people of Newport to get on board with their fundraising efforts and take part in a sponsored spin cycle event at the Newport Velodrome’s spin cycle studio from noon on April 27.
Mr Shipley said: “We are urging everyone to give it a go – spinning is great fun and you will meet others and burn a few calories at the same time”
During the event qualified instructors will be on hand to guide those who give their time for free to help raise the funds.
Mr Farley added: “Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer and we are hoping that others will help us make Newport proud and join in with this fun event - you may even become addicted to it.”
This is only one fundraising effort ahead of their challenge, as the pair who hope to raise £20,000 for the charity also aim to set a new Guinness World Record for the “Longest Line of Moving Bicycles” which currently stands at 916 cyclists, on July 6, the day they depart from the Newport Velodrome.

“However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and commitment of our volunteers and supporters without whom we would not be able to fund our vital research.
“Newport is already a centre for cycling and we are very grateful to the Velodrome for their support.
