YOUNG people from Newbridge gave their green fingers an airing last week by planting trees in an area close to their school.
Pupils from Pantside and Ty Newydd Primary Schools and Newbridge Comprehensive School’s Youth Club took part in the tree planting event organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside Services which forms as part of the Welsh Government’s PLANT initiative.
The scheme aims to plant one tree for every child born or adopted in Wales from 2008 to help create a Welsh National forest of native trees.
Tyla Williams, 10, of Pantside Primary, said: “I’ve really enjoyed planting the trees. I know that we are planting one tree for every baby in Wales.”
Ethan, 10, also from Pantside added: “I’ve already planted four and I only have one baby brother.”
