THE inquest into the death of Newport teenager Nida Naseer heard that the cause of her death is uncertain.
The hearing is taking place at the Gwent Coroner's office in Newport was told that the cause of the 19-year-old's death is still 'unascertained'.
The body of the Coleg Gwent student was found at the Newport Wetlands last week three months after she went missing from her home in Linton Street, Pill.
Sitting at the Gwent Coroner’s office in Newport, Coroner’s officer, David Arnold, said: “At 10.02am on Thursday March 27, Gwent Police responded to a call from workmen who reported finding a body on the shoreline at the mouth of the river Usk in Nash Newport.”
Mr Arnold said the body had been identified as 19-year-old Miss Naseer through dental records and her clothes.
He said the post mortem examination has been carried out and the present cause of death has been given as “unascertained pending further investigation”.
Further toxicology and histology tests (microscopic examination of tissue) are being undertaken.
Cornoner for Gwent, David Bowen, said: “It’s clear from the evidence that further inquiries are necessary before the inquest is listed.
“I’m conscious of the strain the family have no doubt experienced since Nida went missing.
“I ask any member of the public who may have any information that may assist the inquest to contact Gwent Police.”
The inquest was adjourned for six weeks and the body was released to the family for funeral arrangements.
