A SURVEY has revealed overwhelming support for 20mph limits, as road safety charity Brake takes their campaign to parliament today.

Speakers at the Brake and Allianz Insurance GO 20 parliamentary reception will today discuss the benefits of 20mph limits and progress being made by local authorities in implementing them. Their survey shows 78 per cent think 20mph should be the norm around schools, on residential streets, and in village, town and city centres.

The campaign claims 20mph limits lead to fewer casualties, less pollution, sociable communities, healthier lifestyles through more walking and cycling and lower costs, as every road death in the UK is estimated to cost £1.7 million. Brake is calling on government to change the national default urban speed limit to 20mph, reducing the cost of implementation for local authorities.

This survey was carried out by Surveygoo Research in February, in a representative sample of 1,000 UK adults.
