SENIOR Liberal Democrats including the deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg are to descend on Newport for the party’s Welsh spring conference.
The event is taking place in the University of South Wales Newport City Campus this Saturday and Sunday.
On Saturday morning Welsh Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg will give a speech to conference, followed by UK business secretary Vince Cable in the evening.
Welsh Lib Dem leader, the Assembly's Kirsty Williams, is expected to close the conference the next day.
In a forward in the conference’s programme, and ahead of the European elections, Ms Williams says that the Lib Dems are the only party that has a clear message on Europe.
“This weekend is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the European Union,” she wrote.
“The Welsh Liberal Democrats recognise the benefits of being in the EU and we are not afraid to shout about them.”
She added that the party "believes in building a stronger economy and a fairer society. Remaining within the EU is integral to that ambition."
The Lib Dems currently do not have an MEP in Wales.
Former Gwent AM Lord German, who is co-chair of the Parliamentary Party Committee on Work & Pension, will also open the conference on Saturday.
