There were grim discoveries in Gwent after the bodies of two babies were found.
"Intensive" police inquiries were launched after a baby’s body was found in the canal at Pontnewydd. The baby girl had been wrapped in an embroidered cushion cover. Police at Abergavenny revealed another child’s body had been found in a garden in Cwmbran. A married woman had been detained and subsequently released.
Meanwhile, sentences of thirty years each were passed on seven of the twelve men found guilty of charges arising from the Great Train Robbery in August 1963.
Two men received 25 years, one man 24 years, one man 20 years and the 12th man received three years.
