BLACKWOOD Beach Party will return to the town’s high street later this month for the annual event.

A selection of more than 40 food and craft stalls will line the high street on Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29, selling everything from cakes to silver precious stone jewellery and home wine tasting sessions.

The event coincides with a new campaign launched by Caerphilly County Borough Council’s town centre management team, encouraging both residents and visitors alike to ‘choose the high street’ and support local retailers.

The initiative will focus on raising awareness of the importance of consumer choice, and encourage people to use their local high street more.

During summer 2013 – from the beginning of May until the end of September – Blackwood saw a marked increase in visitors to the town centre, from 715,229 the year before to 762,570.

Councillor Ken James, Caerphilly council’s cabinet member for regeneration, planning and sustainable development, said: “This year’s event is particularly important for Blackwood and I would encourage the people of the county borough to come along to a fantastic weekend of family fun and in doing so show their support for the town’s retailers.”

Blackwood Beach Party will run from 9am to 5pm on the Saturday and 10am to 4pm on the Sunday.
