A 31-YEAR-OLD quilt has been recovered inside a Monmouthshire monument.
The quilt, which depicts 16 Gwent castles, was made by the founding members of Gwent Quilters in the early 1980s and was sent to Caldicot Castle with a view to it being hung in their banquet hall.
Christabel Gilbert, one of the founders of Gwent Quilters, contacted the castle hoping to collect it for display in the group’s exhibition at the Lysaght’s Institute, Newport.
But she became worried when staff said they did not know where it was.
Following an appeal in the South Wales Argus, new castle manager Mike Booth asked around and fortuitously discovered the quilt packaged away for safe-keeping.
