BLAENAU Gwent MP Nick Smith has celebrated green-fingered growth after a visit to a horticultural hotbed in the borough.
Green Shoots, a project run by Blaenau Gwent Social Services, has provided work to people with learning disabilities and mental health issues.
Now enjoying external contracts for summer and winter bedding plants and troughs, Green Shoots was instrumental in the flower displays that dazzled across the borough for the Queen’s Baton Relay.
Mr Smith visited Bryn Bach Park site to meet the team.
He said: “The fact volunteers can obtain a qualification through the scheme as well is great for future prospects.”
The team also work closely with the groundsmen at Bryn Bach Park to help manage local forestry. Volunteers are able to achieve the Welsh Agored OCN level 1 as part of the project.
