A CHARITY football match will take place next month to raise money for Pontypool baby Hallie-Rose Howarth, whose mum tragically died two days after her birth.
On July 20, a Newport County XI will play Caerleon Town AFC at 1pm to raise money for newborn Hallie-Rose, the daughter of Caerleon player Lee Howarth.
Hallie-Rose’s mum Caroline Howarth suffered a severe asthma attack that inhibited her breathing and that, coupled with an already decreased level of oxygen in her blood, caused her to go into cardiac arrest during an emergency caesarean section to deliver Hallie-Rose.
Mrs Howarth died on May 10.
Speaking on behalf of Newport County, Lisa Savage said that the venue of the game is to be confirmed, but added the County team will be led by midfielder and youth team coach Michael Flynn and include some former players.
Organisers plan to make the match a family fun day out featuring the likes of a barbecue bar, but further details will be released once the venue is confirmed.
Mr Howarth, who will also be playing in the match, said he was grateful for the support from both teams and hopes that match will raise awareness of the severity of asthma.
“I am looking forward to it,” he said. “It is going to be a big event and lots of people will be there.
“I am grateful for the support of Newport County, who have released a new football kit which I plan to buy for Hallie.
“I am going to get her name on the back and hope she will wear it to the match as a thank you for their sponsorship. All of the money raised will go to Hallie.
“Depending on how much is raised, I am going to put it in a bank account for Hallie until she is 18 so it will be a nice build up for when she is older.”
Fundraising continues on the Just Giving page ‘Donations in memory of Caroline Howarth’ set up by Caerleon Town AFC player Jonathan Tattershall, which has already raised £560 towards its goal of £2,500.
