FISHING season has begun for a group which seeks to preserve an ancient method on the Severn Estuary.
The Black Rock Lave Net Fisherman’s Association is based at the Black Rock picnic site in Portskewett and has eight members, all of whom have permits to fish on the estuary.
The president of the group, Martin Morgan, said: “This is how the people of Sudbrook, Caldicot and Portskewett used to fish.”
The group’s aims include protecting the lave net fishing method with a Y-shaped net and to enhance the value of the fishery through tourism and public awareness.
They will be fishing over the rest of this month, July and August and its open day will be held from 1pm until 5pm on Saturday, August 30.
