Who are you and how did you come together?
We are Will Pearce (guitar/vocals), Hugo Morgan (bass) and Jamie Thompson (drums). Me (Will) and Jamie first met and started jamming in 2011. We played a whole load of shows and released our first EP, Pohlsmoker, as a two piece, then Hugo came on board at the end of last year.
Where are you from?
I’m originally from Sheffield and Jamie comes from the East End of London. Hugo is Bristol born and bred, and that’s where we’re based.
How would you describe your music style?
We’re influenced by all sorts of stuff and I think that comes out in our music. We’ve been described as stoner pop, psychedelic grunge, post-hardcore... I love heavy music, but I also really love melody. I want to make the heaviest pop music possible. That said, we all like weird, left-field stuff like Captain Beefheart and Zu as well. We often get compared to QOTSA, Kyuss and Big Business, so that should give you a rough idea.
What’s been your best live experience?
We once headlined an all-dayer at the Purple Turtle in Camden. People were getting really into it and climbing up on stage, headbanging and stage-diving and all the rest of it. That was fun.
What are you working on at the moment?
We’re constantly writing new songs. We’ve got a bunch that we’re putting the finishing touches to at the moment and we hope to record them this summer. We’re also going to release a split with our pals in HOMOH, who are based in Cardiff.
Where can people hear your music?
Go to pohl.bandcamp.com to stream and download both our EPs for FREE! Also, give us a like on Facebook at facebook.com/pohlrules. I’ve become obsessed with how many ‘likes’ we can clock up. Sad, really.
Where can we see you live?
We just recently played the Full Moon in Cardiff, but we’re sure to play there again in the near future. It’s one of our favourite venues. We also have a bunch of shows coming up in Bristol and are arranging a few up North. The easiest way to find out is to check our Facebook page.
