JACKIE Lewis is well-known to regular readers of this paper.
For we have followed her story since the tragic loss of her son lifeguard Steven Lewis who died of stomach cancer in 2011.
Following his death Mrs Lewis set herself the not insignificant target of raising £25,000 for St David's Hospice Care.
Her aim was to raise money for the hospice which had cared for her son but also to keep the memory of Steven alive.
She has achieved both of those aims.
And while we know she would not expect not perhaps event want any recognition for what she has done, in our view she is deserving of it.
Just two years after starting her fundraising she has reached and actually surpassed her target.
And it will come as no surprise to anyone who has met the warm and selfless Mrs Lewis that she has already decided to continue raising money and now hopes to get to £33,000.
She is a great example of someone who has managed to achieve something positive out of a personal tragedy and has
been the driving force behind countless fund-raising events with the money going to the hospice charity which helped her son in the latter part of his illness.
Some of the events Mrs Lewis organised are now annual fixtures and so hopefully will go on to raise money year in and year out.
We salute her.
