AROUND 40 cyclists - including former Welsh rugby international Lloyd Burns - came together at the weekend to raise funds and raise awareness for the Pontypool mum ‘trapped in her own body.’

Lindsay Clarke, 33, has been bed-bound since December as a result of the rare autoimmune disease, Stiff Person Syndrome.

She is desperately in need of a £300,000 stem cell transplant.

The condition has forced her husband, Jason, to give up work to become her full time carer as well as looking after the couple’s three children Olivia-Beth, 12, Mollie-Jai, seven, and Dylan, four.

Donations have poured in on an online fundraising page since Mrs Clarke’s story was first told, with £20,082.00 being raised, and numerous community events have been held to further the fund.

On Saturday the cyclist group made their way from Brecon Canal Basin to Pontypool raising around £4,000.

Joining them was an avid runner, Chris Morris, who pounded the 33.1 miles on foot in five hours.

Friend Paul Hicks, 33, took part in the cycle for Mrs Clarke known to friends as ‘Nerrie.'

“I went to school with her,” he said.

“Her condition really pulls on the heart strings."
