A HOUSING association in Monmouth will have to pay full price for a parcel of land after a previous offer of 50 per cent was rejected.

The land sale at Mynyddbach will go ahead at full price after Monmouthshire's cabinet approved the decision.

The 0.12 hectares of land in Mynyddbach will be used by Monmouthshire Housing Association (MHA) to build two affordable houses.

The housing association will now pay full price for the site instead of the 50 per cent previously offered. The decision was approved by councillors at a special cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

Phil Murphy, member for resources, said: “At the start of this journey the monetary offer was 50 per cent of the value of the land.

"The sale will go ahead with the basis of full value of the site which is subject to evaluation.”

Cllr Graham Down, member for Shirenewton, said: “I don’t object to the social housing on that site, my concern was not getting the full property value.

"That is not to be the case, I am happy.”

Cllrs Down, Debby Blakebrough and Robert Hayward had asked for the decision to sell the land to be put back to the cabinet.

The homes will form part of a Welsh Government-supported pilot by using a new technique for Welsh timber frame construction. There are currently 175 households on Monmouthshire's Housing Register who specified Shirenewton on their application and 53 of those have a local connection to the village.
