A CWMBRAN man has appeared in court in connection with an alleged stabbing at a Rogerstone car wash.
Albert Matmuja, 37, of Newnham Place, appeared at Newport Magistrates Court today charged with grievous bodily harm with intent. He has been charged in relation to a 39-year-old man who received wounds at a disused garage on Tregwilym Road on Friday.
The man from Newport remains at The Royal Gwent Hospital and is described to be in a stable condition.
Police were called to the incident at 8.50am at the Star hand car wash and initially arrested four men in connection with the incident. The three other men arrested have been released from police custody with no further action but have been referred to the UK Borders Agency for alleged immigration offences.
Police said a man from Newport was in a life-threatening condition and receive treatments for his injuries on Friday.
Matmuja has been remanded in custody and will appear at Newport Crown Court on July 10. Anyone with any information is urged to call Gwent Police on 1010 quoting log 126 20/06/14.
