THE rider of a motorcycle who died in the early of hours of Sunday following a collision on the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road has been named as Lee Harris, from Tredegar.

Mr Harris, aged 25, was riding a red Kawasaki motorbike when it was involved in a collision with a blue Peugeot 206 car on the road near Clydach.

The incident happened at around 12.45am on Sunday, June 22, and Mr Harris was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for a time while investigations were carried out.

Mr Harris’ family has released a short tribute: “Lee will be dearly missed by his family and especially ‘his boys’. We ask to be left alone to grieve at this time.”

Gwent Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision. Call 101, quoting log number 34 22/6/14.

This was the second fatality of the weekend on Gwent’s roads to involve a motorcyclist. It followed the death on Saturday morning of 60-year-old Kevin Morgan, of Cwmbran.

He died after a collision involving a white Kawasaki bike and a black BMW on the northbound carriageway of the A449 between Newport and Usk, at around 11.15am.

The A449 remained closed for several hours in both directions between junction 24 of the M4 at the Coldra, and the Usk Interchange (A472), while investigation work was carried out by the emergency services.

The BMW driver, a 32-year-old man from Chepstow, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.
