FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a “large fire” on the mountain below the cemetery on Varteg Road Blaenavon, South Wales Fire and Rescue said.
They received reports of a grass fire at 3.45pm today (TUES) and there are currently 19 firefighters tackling the blaze, from Blaenavon, New Inn, Brynmawr, Cwmbran and Abersychan.
Three fire engines are attending as well as a 4x4 to help gain access to the mountainous terrain, and firefighters are using a water bowser.
A spokeswoman said there were no homes nearby which needed to be evacuated and no-one had been injured in the fire.
She added they expected some firefighters to be leaving the scene in the next hour.
