PLANS for an Aldi regional distribution centre near Newport could create 400 jobs.
The supermarket have submitted a planning application to build the centre within the Capital Business Park, in Wentloog, between Newport and Cardiff.
The centre will store and distribute chilled and frozen goods and will have space for office accommodation, an associated gatehouse, a freezer warehouse and a refuse and recycling area.
The site is currently vacant and plans submitted to Cardiff council show 70 spaces for loading docks for HGVs and 248 car parking spaces.
The proposed regional office and distribution centre will provide an estimated 400 jobs within the first few years of operation and boost the local economy. This project is a new centre in the region which Aldi say will build to support the existing and potential new stores in the locality.
The site currently has permission for a distribution centre which was granted in 2004 and further extended in 2009.
The 11.59 hectares of undeveloped land is a single plot on the business park and is described to have a good road with good pedestrian links and a bus service.
