Coal shipments from Newport Docks were to come to an end on August 29. Trade was then due to be transferred to Barry Docks in accordance with a new policy from the British Transport Docks Board.
AS a result of controlled tipping, Newport’s Parks and Cemetries Committee planned to convert 26 acres of wasteland at Maesglas into playing firlds within the next ten years.
Extensions to the over-crowded Newport and Monmouthshire College of Technology, costing £243,000, were approved by the Department of Education and Science.
