AN ABERSYCHAN headteacher and her former pupil jumped out of a plane to raise money for the school.
The headteacher of Victoria Village Primary School in Abersychan, Joy Dando, along with former pupil Bek Thomas, 19, raised £1,608 for the construction of a new outdoor shelter at the school through the tandem sky dive.
Ms Dando said that the jump was not anything like she had ever experienced.
“It is the best thing I’ve ever done in my life," she added.
The pair jumped from a height of 13,000ft on June 7, above Swansea.
The money they raised will contribute to the construction of a new outdoor shelter which would allow children at the school to play sand, water, and outdoor games whilst keeping out of the rain.
Miss Thomas, who left the school in 2005 but who’s younger sister still attends, conceived the idea after hearing that the site needed a new shelter.
The former student - owner of Griffithstown business, Ann’s Fruit Basket, approached the school with the idea, and - to her surprise - Ms Dando told her that she would do it with her.
