Over the years Sharon Fitzgerald-Higgins has trained scores of local students in many disciplines of dance, including, ballet, tap, jazz and modern as well as covering the full spectrum of arts in a very successful musical theatre class. Having been a professional singer and dancer herself, there isn’t anyone better-placed to bring out the best in her pupils.
Their annual show, Dance is the Answer, did just that. The large troupe of dancers from age three to adult were each given their time in the spotlight in a carefully choreographed set of themes designed to demonstrate the best of their abilities.
Beginning with the senior groups, and Let’s Swing, we were taken on a journey which included a complex adult tap set entitled Top Hat, a Pretty Ballerinas set, Pachelbels Canon in D and When You Dance set and a visually stunning ballet pastiche from Oklahoma.
Ably accompanied by vocalists, Matthew Bryant, Jordan Archer and Andre Paul Spring who cleverly filled-in between costume changes, the tempo changed with a very up-beat Great Gatsby, cute Prima Ballerina and another accomplished Let’s Tap set before once again altering the mood with an emotive, How Long Will I Love You.
The musical theatre class demonstrated their full capabilities in a Hairspray excerpt, and a young and vital One Direction finale perfectly showcased all the talent, enthusiasm and discipline that this school of dance promotes.
Honest, uplifting and testament to hard work being greatly fulfilled. It ends on Saturday
