A JURY has begun its deliberations in the murder trial of a man who shot dead his estranged wife in a Newport street last Summer.
Christopher Parry, 50, of Cwmbran, is charged with murder after he shot Caroline Parry twice in the back on August 8, 2013, on Seabreeze Avenue, before shooting himself in an unsuccessful attempt to take his own life.
Parry admits manslaughter but denies murder.
The judge finished summing up the case yesterday morning, leaving the jury to begin its deliberations.
After failing to reach a decision yesterday, they were released for the weekend.
During the trial the jury heard from the prosecution, who maintain Parry shot his wife deliberately and that evidence did not meet the criteria for diminished responsibility.
Defending, Roger Thomas QC told the jury Parry is and was suffering from severe depression which “substantially impaired his responsibility for his act”.
Proceeding.
