A DOG at the RSPCA centre in Newport is looking for a new home after undergoing a facelift to solve an eye problem.
Stella, the Sharpei cross, had a nip and tuck after suffering from entropia in one eye where the weight of excess skin caused her eyelashes to turn inward.
A mini facelift has helped to correct the problem, which is more common in dogs with wrinkly skin.
Six-year-old Stella was taken to the RSPCA Newport animal centre in November last year because of welfare concerns.
The dog has recovered well from both the facelift operation and a hernia operation and is now looking for a new home.
Rebecca Jeffery, deputy manager at the Newport centre, said: “Poor Stella hasn’t had the best start in life but she has recovered really well from her operations and has been showered with love and affection from staff here.
“She is a really lovely dog and deserves to be out of our kennels as soon as possible and in a loving home she deserves.
“She loves human attention and she loves nothing more than rolling around on the grass with a ball in her mouth.
“She is a very intelligent dog who has enjoyed learning her basic commands, her continued training will be easy as long as you have some tasty treats.”
Stella is currently having weekly medicated baths to help soothe her dry skin which would need to be continued by her new owners until the condition clears up.
The dog could live with secondary school age children and could be rehomed with other pets, subject to assessment.
Despite Stella’s medical bills costing more than £1,000, her rehoming fee is £130 and she is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, will have six weeks' free insurance and an identity disc for her collar engraved with her new owner’s details.
