MORE than 200 people are expected to attend a family fun day in Newport this weekend to remember Leroy Richardson who tragically died last year.
Tributes to father-of-four Mr Richardson, 54, from Pill, poured in when he tragically suffered a heart attack while out cycling in July 2013.
Now his family and friends are organising a barbecue and celebration day on Saturday [July 12] to mark the one year anniversary of his death.
Organiser and close family friend Carl Bassett said: “He was a big man with a big heart. He never gets forgotten and days like this celebrate that”.
Mr Richardson’s cousin, Michael Isaacs, and family friend, David Bayley, are also helping to organise the day which will see Newport Athletic Club host games, a barbecue, a bouncy castle and face painting.
Mr Bassett said: “He has so many friends the event is mainly for them and his family. The event is completely free and open to everyone”.
For Mr Bassett the event, which runs from 3pm to 12am, is also particularly poignant.
He said: “The funeral was when I was on holiday last year which was a wrencher for me, although he would have been saying, ‘go on holiday, have fun!’ So this event is important for me personally as I will be able to be here this time.”
