A NEWPORT teenager got more than he bargained for when he was charged a whopping £179,932.32 for a large pizza.

The Nathaniel Bolwell, 19, paid with his Lloyds Bank card for a large plain takeaway pizza from Domino’s, Chepstow Road, Newport, on Wednesday, June 25.

But instead of paying £17.99 for the pizza, he was charged more than £179,900 which was debited from his bank account.

A spokeswoman for Domino’s Pizza said the payment was actually authorised by the teenager’s bank, which paid the money back two days later, plus £100 compensation.

She confirmed that the chain had charged the Newport teen £179,932.32 for his large pizza, calling it a “human error”.

Commenting on the payment error, she added: “We have looked into this and this was down to a human error.

“This was immediately flagged by our merchant provider due to the amount and a reversal of funds was instantly put in place.

“Unfortunately the payment was authorised by the customer’s bank.

“At no point in this process has the customer raised a complaint with us.

“We understand that this has now been completely resolved and we apologise for any inconvenience caused,” she added.
