AGE Cymru Gwent has been names as the second of two Newport charities voted onto the Monopoly board.
The charity which will appear on a ‘tax’ location on the new official board for Newport, which will hit shop shelves in early October in time for Christmas.
London games chiefs reserved two prime sites on the customised board for two different Newport charities when they appealed for public nominations earlier in the year.
Dan Taylor, Head of Monopoly Development at Winning Moves UK, who are making the board under official license from Monopoly owners Hasbro, says: “We were overwhelmed with responses.
“Originally we reserved one spot but such was the response we doubled it to two.
“A very big thank you to everyone who sent in nominations.”
Age Cymru Gwent will appear on a ‘tax’ location from the board’s Monopoly original - where players pay money for landing on them.
Monopoly chiefs felt this was “a nice fit” as instead of paying a ‘fine’ players may think about later making a ‘donation’ to charity.
Eileen Powell, Executive Director for Age Cymru Gwent said: “We are delighted that Age Cymru Gwent have been nominated for a place on the Newport Monopoly board.
"This year we are celebrating 40 years of delivering services to older people throughout the Newport and Gwent area and this is a fabulous recognition of the work we carry out.
“Our services help to support older people to maintain their independence and to continue to play an active role in their communities.
“Newport has a rich history and residents - past and present – and I am sure the public will enjoy playing the game, buying up landmarks they recognise and love.
“We are proud to have secured a place on the board and an opportunity for the work of the charity to be celebrated and immortalised in this way.“ Dan Taylor adds: “We are delighted to welcome Age Cymru Gwent onto the brand new Newport Monopoly board – they proved extremely popular in the charity aspect of the public voting.”
